Wishing you a Happy Diwali

Happy Diwali - The Festival of Lights

Happy Diwali to everyone!!!! (officially October 19th but we get the upcoming week off for a holiday)

(Pronounced Divali)

The Festival of Lights
"One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, it spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair." (source:

In Delhi, it is marked by fireworks, candles, lights and gifts! It's the Hindu Christmas.

And who wouldn't want to celebrate the victory of good over evil?!?!?

To help celebrate this major festival season, the school gave gifts to all of our Indian colleagues. They also decorated the school with lights and these amazing patterns called rangoli. Coloured rice or flour is used to make patterns on the floor.

A colleague told a story of the time that several Buddhist monks came to AES to create some rangolis. At the end of the week, when they were done with their creation, they simply blew away the flour and cleaned up the rice.
